Gilbert Richard Mitchison, Baron Mitchison was born on 23 March 1894.2 He was the son of Arthur Maw Mitchison and Mary Emmeline Russell .2 He married Naomi May Margaret Haldane , daughter of John Scott Haldane and Louisa Kathleen Trotter , on 11 February 1916.2 He died on 14 February 1970 at age 75.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England .2 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918.2 He gained the rank of Major.2 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1917 entitled to practice as a Barrister-at-Law.2 He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England , with a Master of Arts (M.A.).2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Northamptonshire, Kettering Division between 1945 and 1964.2 He was invested as a Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) in 1946.2 He was invested as a Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.).2 He was created Baron Mitchison, of Carradale in the County of Argyllshire [U.K. Life Peer] on 5 October 1964.1
