- Obituary for Idaleen M. Cassingham
Idaleen Marie (Maw) Cassingham was born at Greenleaf, Idaho on August 28, 1924, the second of seven children born to Harlan and Asenath Marie (Meredith) Maw. Her early years were spent near Roswell, Idaho where her family farmed. Later the family homesteaded near Nyssa, Oregon where she graduated from high school in 1942. She went to work for the Rationing Board in Nyssa and then the Bureau of Reclamation. In November 1945 she met Clayton Cassingham; they married at Nyssa on April 14, 1946.
Married life began in Payette, Idaho; it was there that son Raymond was born. Work took them to Bremerton, WA where daughter Marie was born. Work again moved the family; this time to Boise and then on to Heyburn/Burley, Idaho where the family settled in long term. Mom pursued her education degree during this time and began her career in Burley teaching 3rd grade. In 1966 the family relocated to Moses Lake where Mom taught 5th and 6th grades at Peninsula and Knolls Vista Schools. Education was important to Mother and she fully enjoyed her years teaching. Mother was a faithful long time member of the United Methodist Church.
After retirement Clayton and Idaleen travelled extensively nationally and internationally. Mother enjoyed scenery and took many wonderful pictures to document their journeys. She loved her family dearly. Her likes were simple; she took great pleasure in gardening and flowers. A full pantry attested to her annual food preservation efforts. Beautiful cut flowers were a constant in the home.
On April 10, 2014 she was called from her earthly home.
Surviving are her husband of nearly 68 years, Clayton Cassingham of Moses Lake; son Raymond Cassingham (Valerie); daughter Marie Claflin, stepson Lou Dyas (Bonnie) along with four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and one great-great-granddaughter. One brother and one sister also survive along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Idaleen you are much loved and will be sorely missed.
