Mawe, 54, of Manchester Mrs. William C. Mawe, 54, of Manchester died Friday morning following a brief illness. Mrs. Mawe died enroute from Delaware County Memorial hospital to St. Luke's hospital, after having been stricken with acute leukemia. Funeral services for Mrs. Mawe will be held at 1:30 p.m. today (Monday) at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Delaware, with the Rev. George Steinkamp officiating. Burial will be made in Pine View cemetery, Delaware. The Shelly funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Marian Marie McCarthy, daughter of Chester O. and Lela I Dunlap McCarthy, was born Dec. 2, 1913, northwest of Manchester in Delaware township. She moved with her parents at age 2 to a farm south of Manchester and received her education in Milo and Prairie township rural schools and Manchester high school, graduating in 1931. She attended Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls, and received a teacher certificate. She taught in Delaware county schools until her marriage. She was united in marriage with William C. Mawe on Feb. 20, 1935, at Delaware. They farmed all of their lives together until retiring from farming several years ago, when they moved to Manchester. Mrs. Mawe has served as receptionist for Dr. John E. Tyrell of Manchester for several years. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, Delaware, and of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League of St. Paul's. She was also a member of a number of women's social clubs in Manchester. She is survived by her husband, William C. Mawe of 812 E. Butler street, Manchester; two sons, two granddaughters and one grandson; her mother, Mrs. Lela McCarthy of Manchester; two brothers, Owen D. McCarthy of Manchester and Victor L McCarthy of Council Bluffs, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Mawe was preceded in death by her father, Chester, in 1960.
