- Isabel b. 1765 is one of the two IGI candidates for the marriage 29 August 1794 in Wemyss to Andrew Dunsyre; the other is Isabel Dunsyre b. 1770, second daughter of John Dunsire / Katherine Nicol. Andrew Dunsyre, in turn, might be the son of Andrew Dunsyre / Janet Litster, b. 26 June 17557, or the son of Peter Dunsire / Janet Japhray, b. 30 December 1759; or the son of John Dunsire / Katharine Nicol. Two of these pairings rule themselves out (brother and sister]; but in the absence of children of the marriage, or the names of witnesses, or anything but the bare parish record [betrothed 23 August, married 29 August 1794] and that they were 'both in this parish', it is impossible to settle the matter,
However, it seems likely that, wherever the truth lies, this bride and groom with the same surname were not related to one another by blood, at least for several generations back as far as records go. The John / Katharine Nicol family stemmed from a Clackmannan family [Andrew Dunsyre and Margaret Whyte, m. 8 December 1703]. The Andrew / Janet Litster family was descended from the Edinburgh family of james Dunsyre / Helen Gillon. Whether either Andrew married either Isobel, the provenance would not be consanguine.
