It was also suggested her parents died when she was very young and she grew up with an uncle on a plantation in Virginia, but all searches for family have been unsuccessful to date. There is information on the Internet that her mother was "Augusta" Hoffman - the surname is accurate per her death record but the name Augusta is not. Her father died in the Virginia/West Virginia area, not in Minnesota. Elizabeth's husband was John Elton Thompson (1795-1851) buried in Allen's Grove Cemetery near Dixon, Scott Co., Iowa.
