Marie was born March 15, 1912, in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Herman Julius and Mary Amelia (Maurer) Mawe. Marie grew up in Manchester and graduated from high school there. She also attended a college in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She had worked in the office of physicians Dr. Jones and also Dr. Clark. Marie married Clarence Baldwin September 20, 1941, in Manchester. She then moved to Waterloo where she worked in the office of Platt's Nursery, Exceptional Persons and for Leo Mak. Marie enjoyed needle work, reading, and trips Clarence and she took around the country. These trips included visits to Jane in New York City. She was an active participant in worship throughout her life, loved music, singing and playing the piano.
