- Virginia Maw Hieb, 86, of Lodi, California, passed away with her family at her side on January 9, 2013, in Lodi, California.
Virginia was born on June 5, 1926 in Creston Nebraska to Minnie and Robert Maw and was the 3rd youngest of 12 children. After graduating from Creston High School in Nebraska, she attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and went on to earn a Bachelors degree from College of the Pacific in Stockton, California.
Virginia met her future husband, Melvin Hieb, at her sister-in-law, Thelma Hieb's wedding where Melvin was the best man. Virginia and Melvin raised their family on their farm east of town where they resided for more than fifty years.

In the Lodi Unified School District, she taught 4th grade at Houston School, Lawrence Elementary School, and Reese Elementary School in Lodi. She also taught English as a Second Language (ESL) at Parklane Elementary School in Stockton.
A very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Lodi since the mid 1950's, she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School to several generations of local children. She was also active with the United Methodist Women and various church mission projects. She enjoyed her family, traveling and volunteering. Virginia was a Harmony Grove 4-H leader and 4-H camp counselor in the 1970s. Later, after she retired from teaching, she was a docent for the San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum.
Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Hieb, her four sisters and five brothers.
