Dear Judy
I have been researching the people involved with St James the Less church, Tatham in North Lancashire and, as a result of my research I searched for people and have found your website.
I am interested in the Rev Arthur Senior Roberts, who was Rector of Tatham from 1902 until about 1939, and his wife Mary Jane (nee Barker) and her inlaws. There are memorial windows in the church to both Arthur Roberts and Mary's brother, Robert, and a gravestone to Emily Barker, Mary's sister, who lived with them at the rectory.
I have traced both Arthur and the Barkers to Todmorden, which seems to have had quite a lot of connections with Tatham, and know a fair bit about the Barkers of Stansfield Hall there, but I know very little about Arthur Roberts, except that he had been curate of Todmorden and came from a Yorkshire farming family. I am also wondering if any of the families concerned had connections with Gloucestershire, and in particular the village of Leonard Stanley since Robert Barker's widow later married there although she did not live there.
A member of the Bent family also lived locally and was connected with the church although I am not sure if that is not just a coincidence!.
Can you shed any further light on this please? I would be happy to send you information and images I have been collecting if it would be useful to you, although at the moment it is far from complete and rather jumbled.
Our local history society has a website if you are interested- although none of the families concerned appear on it (as yet) www.tathamhistory/org.uk
Best wishes
Mike
