Born in Six Mile, she was the daughter of Levis Leon Gilstrap of Greenville and the late Alice Williams Gilstrap. Mrs. Howard attended Winthrop College and was the retired co-owner of Howard Construction Company. She was of the Baptist faith. Surviving, in addition to her father and husband, are two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilou H. and Rocky Sullivan of Charleston, and Wendy H. and Keith Clarke of Campobello; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gerald K. and Jeannie Howard of Greenville, and C. Kelly Howard of Anderson; two sisters, Loretta G. Robinson and Regina G. Smith, both of Anderson; a brother, Levis L. Gilstrap Jr. of Liberty; and four grandchildren, Kelly Ann Howard, Kristen Howard, Hayden Clarke and Venna Shay Clarke. Memorials may be made to the Monastery of St. Clare, 1916 North Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, SC 29609. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 6, 2007, from 12 to 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, with services to follow at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel.
