  Is this regarding the same H Lister Maw? Found on website: http://www.ukbookworld.com/cgi-bin/order_enq.pl?add=vhs1947%239280 MAW H Lister Statements in reply to a letter from Captain James Scott of H M Ship President published in the United Service Journal for April 1835., London: Smith Elder, 1835 first edition, 32 pages. A good copy stitched as issued, covers somewhat dog-eared and soiled, a little light foxing. Maw was court martialled for failing to keep his watch after two smugglers escaped from custody when HMS President was at anchor in Halifax harbour. A highly promising officer - according to his own account he was next in line for promotion - he declined to accept a merited rebuke and instead defended himself vigorously on the ground that it was not the custom of the ship for lieutenants to keep the watch while the ship was in harbour.
