18 Jul 2001 |
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, USA |
| Deseret News |
- Birth: Nov. 26, 1915
Death: Jul. 15, 2001
Harold L. Maw, 85, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grand father, brother and friend passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Sunday, July 15, 2001. He was born November 26, 1915 to Robert Maw, Jr. and Mary V. Johnson Maw in Salt Lake City, Ut. He attended local schools and colleges. He met Afton Powell during these school years and they were married November 26, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He was a patriot and loved his country, working in the War Dept in Wash, DC and serving in the US Army during World War II. He served three missions for the LDS Church, had a strong testimony and was valiant in his service to the Lord and his fellowmen to the very end. He was an outstanding husband, always showing love, concern, support and care for his dear wife. He was a fantastic father who taught with love and by example. He was an outstanding role model for his posterity. He was a terrific friend to many in a very large group that stretches across the country and into Mexico where he and Afton spent winters for many years. He appreciated the fine arts and enjoyed traveling. Most of all he loved being with his family. He will be greatly missed but NEVER forgotten.
He is survived by his loving wife, Afton, and their children: Glen (Cindy) Maw, Logan; Marybeth (Leigh) Cannon, Salt Lake; Gilbert (Jenny) Maw, Santa Fe, NM; Blaine (Jeanne) Maw, S. Jordan; Evan (Laurie) Maw, Visalia, CA; Arlen Maw (Debra Brandon), Salt Lake; 21 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. His brothers and sisters included Clarence, Lois, Ivan, and Ruth Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Earl.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2001 at 12 noon at the Colonial Hills 2nd Ward, 1455 South 1700 East, Salt Lake City. Family and friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City, and on Friday at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Harold would want contributions made to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund.
